When is the bird ready to leave the nest.....
Is it time to fly the coop ?
So today I had a moral dilemma.
Here I was jogging along and stopped to change my music - when a baby little birdie scrambled under my feet.
He was cute, a little fluffy and clearly just out of the nest.
Now - normally I would have scooped that little birdie up, taken him home, hand fed him until he could make it on his own.
Instead - I crouched down next to my new little noisy friend and assessed the situation.
He was fresh out of the nest - but he wasn't flightless - he just hadn't flown yet
His mother was fluttering about in the tree over head - and it was entirely possible she was having mother-guilt of her own!
I knew with my limited knowledge of Evolution Theory - that Survival of the Fittest was something that had held the animal kingdom in good stead for years.
So as I weighed up whether it was immoral to walk away and leave that little chick there - I thought of 3 things
1. He was being watched over
2. It was his time to leave the nest and make his own way.
3. No amount of my care could guarantee his survival unless he had the guts to hop off that pavement and find his first worm.
And so it is in business :
I can watch over you as a client
I can push you out of the nest and ensure you manage your bookkeeping on your own
But no amount of my support alone can ensure your business survival unless you want to succeed.
I can provide advice as to the best software - install it and train you in it - I can even make sure it is working efficiently but I cant enforce you use it regularly.
What I can do is advise you about what I have seen other businesses do that works and what definately does not work.
You and your business are the little birdie and the nest - and I want you to be able to fly !
