Embracing the trolls in my life...
What Trolls have taught me about my 'tude' towards my business
Do you have what it takes ? I think I do and then sometimes the doubt creeps in ….
When you are a business owner - you spend a lot of time in your own head - living and breathing your business
Sometimes you just need to break this tension.
Tonight my 11 year old niece chose the family movie - Trolls - not my choice - I struggle to relax and watch a movie at the best of times. Always thinking there is something else i should be doing….
Who would have thought an animated feature would mimic my business life and make me smile ?
The story line goes that the Trolls are the happy people - they sing, they dance and the Burgens (can’t help but think of burgen bread) are the unhappy energy zappers. Negative, mean and dark.
Long story short - too late - the Burgens invade the trolls happiness party and steal away some of the happy trolls. Princess Poppy - a troll - decides to go rescue her friends and takes her reluctant friend Branch - also a troll - with her.
Now Branch is a dark cloud. He is all doom gloom and negativity. He is that person in your business life that you want to like but their negativity and energy draining exhausts you. He won’t do hi 5’s , he has a negative view on EVERYTHING. Poppy is happy, positive and a real go getter. She’s the sunshine to his rain.
Branch on the other hand says “I don’t sing and I don’t relax - this is how I am” Some business weeks I can relate to Branch!
The Burgens want to achieve ‘troll happiness’ - yet they are so bent on their mission to dominate happiness will never come.
A lot of drama interspersed with dancing and singing ensues but basically it all ends well for the happy people.
As I watched, I couldn’t help but think about my business life and the Trolls and Burgens I have.
As a business owner I have to engage my inner Poppy and not let the negative thoughts get to me - I have to wake up committed to my business to be positive and do great things.
And it’s ok for me to be a little like Branch - I have to question, disagree and think ‘what if’ - but whatever I do, I don’t want to be a Burgen - bent on revenge, hungry for power and caught up in my own drama.
I have what it takes - so do you - we have businesses that survive for a reason - sometimes it takes a troll to tell us that !
